Moved workspace

September 28th, 2008

Well I’ve finally managed to move my workspace back out into the Family room.. my desk that I made from 2×4′s 4×4′s and a nice long 8′ counter top is a beast to move by myself (probably shouldn’t have done that but meh.. I did anyways..). Here are a few pictures of a couple of monitors and my beast of a pc + laptop on it. You might even be able to see my modded Dell Optiplex GX270 off to the right side as well.

FireBox II modding

September 28th, 2008

I’ve been playing around with modding FireBox II’s to run m0n0wall. With some help from chris @ ls-net page on what he did, and a bit of past experience of installing m0n0wall on various other pc’s I was able to mod 5 old FireBox II’s to run m0n0wall (older version, to fit on the 8mb internal flash drive), without having to leave in my CF card & adapter.. I’ve been running my first one that I’ve done now for quite a few months now. I modded my first one to have an externally powered 120mm fan (the two internal fans was NOISY! – bad bearings likely). I had to power it externally as the only other 120mm fan I could find at the time did not seem to want to run off of the 5v supplied power for the internal fans. I’ve since found that all my other 120mm fans run fine from that, abliet at a lower speed (which is great!).. I’m trying to figure out how to use a few plug-ins with wordpress to link to my google picasa album, but here’s a link to that album

Current Book – Live Learn Lead to Make a Difference

September 28th, 2008

Currently I’m reading a few books, the one on top of my stack (from my Team leadership system) is by Don Soderquist, titled LIVE LEARN LEAD to Make a Difference. It’s not of my usual caliber of reading book (leans a bit on the religious scriptures) but then again, I cannot learn to grow if I only read the same style books. There are some parts that I do like how he has shown what he learned from different points in his life and career at Walmart. I’m hoping to finish this book today/tomorrow yet, as it is a short read (<144 pgs).

Man! What a great weekend it was. 3 Days of leadership and community building learning from the top leaders. We even got to listen to Dallin Larsen, founder of MonaVie. I’ve gotten access to my new personal home page for MonaVie as well.. More to come later!

The Anatomy of Peace

June 14th, 2008

I just received this book from this month’s leadership training system on Tuesday and could not wait to read it..

I got my first chance late Tuesday and read probably 30~ pages of it before I retired for the night.. Then I resumed reading it some more Wednesday evening after sharing some berries. I then probably read around 60 pages that night while finishing a few other projects.. On Thursday however, I was getting the itch to read some more of it so I began reading it shortly after getting home.. It is quiet something to read principles in this book that I’ve seen used and encouraged in the Team Leadership system.. This book had me hooked in good for the rest of the evening that I actually finished reading it before I retired. I don’t think I had actually done that with a non-fiction book ever before, certain of that size. The only other one I can think of was another good book and as soon as I can find it I’ll post it… I plan to be re-reading this book over and over so I can absorb and hopefully use what I learn from it.
